Second-year guard Patrick Iavarone scored 21 points to lead the Mohawk men’s basketball team to a 129-62 victory over Fleming of Peterborough in pre-season Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play on Sunday (Sept. 29).
Xzennis Brereton had 15 points, while Ian Assing and Andrew Cicuttini each collected 14 points, with Cicuttini adding 10 rebounds. Juwan Goldson had 13 points and 11 boards in the game played at the new David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.
Bailey Burton topped all scorers in the game with 26 points for the visiting Knights.
Mountaineers’ head coach Brian Jonker was pleased to be able to give considerable game time to every one of his players, after a tough contest at Centennial College Saturday and with another test Tuesday against McMaster University, which will mean three games in four days.
Mohawk has five returning players with seven first year players and Jonker thought the rookies performed very well.
