The Hamilton Minor Football Association’s Bantam Jr. Ticats continued their powerhouse season, taking their record to 5-0 in Ontario Varsity Football League rep action by knocking off the London Mustangs, 33-14, on Sunday (Sept. 29) in London.
Isaac Mcalonan and Levar Anderson each scored two touchdowns with Zeke Margaretis adding the other major. Linebacker Leo Hernandez and defensive end Mathew Trobetta were outstanding on defence.
The HMFA Peewee Rep Junior Ticats also won over London on Sunday, 24-6.
In other Hamilton Peewee OVFL Minor Development action Sunday, the East Mountain Lions prevailed over the West Mountain Riders, 30-6, to claim Mountain bragging rights, while the Stoney Creek Bombers knocked off the East Hamilton Stampeders, 40-18.
Scoring touchdowns for the Lions at Mohawk Park were Quayvon Ferron, with two, and Logan Walker and Mya D’Arrigo with one each. Tyler Goddard kicked a 22-yard field goal.
Thomas Saab scored the Riders lone TD.
Owen Silverthorne and Jared Riley scored TDs in the Bombers win over the Stamps.
In Bantam MD play at Mohawk park, the East Hamilton Stamps met their cross-town rivals, the Stoney Creek Bombers in a game that was decided in the final minute, with the Bombers scoring to clinch the 30-22victory.
Bombers touchdowns were scored by Sam Zamperin and Motez Assai. Stampeders’ fullback Kyle Baker led the Stamps offence with some very effective running earning the praise from head coach Dan Fournier for his disciplined play.
“Kyle came out and was mentally ready and his play was outstanding,” said Fournier.
Also in Bantam MD play, the Westdale Eskimos shut out the Cambridge Lions, 46-0. Drake Geer-Timmins, Tristan Phipps and Everton Frost, with two touchdowns each, led the way. Nathan Jones had the seventh TD.
The HMFA, celebrating 50 years of minor football in the city, invites current and former players, coaches and parents to gather at a gala 50th-anniversary Halloween Dinner Dance, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25 at Michelangelo’s.
Tickets for the Halloween gala are $25 each and the HMFA is reaching out to former players, coaches and supporters to attend the event.
