Mohawk Mountaineer Mike Rizzetto fired a two over par 74 and is tied for eighth place, three shots off the lead after one round of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Golf Championships in Paris.
Rizzetto had 14 pars, a birdie and three bogeys on his scorecard, during a steady round of golf on Monday (Sept. 30).
Georgian players Alex Wilson and Colton Kalkanis matched one under par 71s to share the lead. They were the only players to shoot below par on the 6,771 yard Paris Grand Golf Course. Kalkanis is the reigning OCAA and Canadian Colleges Athletic Association champion.
Mohawk’s Jair Saenz sits in 11th place at 75, three over par. Saenz had seven bogeys, but also had two birdies and an eagle on the 460-yard 15th hole. It was one of only two eagles recorded on day one.
Other Mohawk scores included: Cameron Garon (83), Brendan Lewis (84) and Eric Steubing (88).
Mohawk is in fifth place in the men’s team competition, which Humber leads. There are 11 teams.
Jessica Fell, Mohawk’s lone woman playing in the event, carded a 111.
Rookie Adrienne D’Alessio of Humber leads by three strokes after an 11 over par 83. Humber tops the women’s team standings. Mohawk, with just the one player, is not contesting the team event.
The second of three rounds begins Tuesday at 9 a.m.
