The McMaster women’s volleyball team brought home a bronze medal from the Unruh Realty Tournament hosted at the University of Winnipeg.
Marauder coach Tim Louks was able to play the entire McMaster roster over the three-day event, with assessment of his players in a competitive setting being the primary goal. It was the Marauders first competition in advance of regular season play.
Playing in Winnipeg was also a bonus for two Marauders as Camilla Thorne-Tjomsland and Kierstyn Bakker got to compete in front of friends and family in their hometown.
The tournament included Ontario University Athletics rival Toronto and Canada West contenders Brandon, Manitoba, and Winnipeg. The Marauders dropped tough matches to Brandon (3-1), Winnipeg (3-1) and Manitoba (3-2) and faced Toronto in the bronze medal match, defeating the Blues, 3-2, to end the tournament on a winning note.
The Marauders will continue their pre-season schedule with a trip to Ottawa this week for the Gee-Gee Invitational Tournament Oct. 4-6 at the University of Ottawa.
