Mohawk golfers claim second tier crown

Golf_ball_resting_near_fairway_woodThe Mohawk men’s team was awarded the Division Two gold medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Golf Championships in Paris on Wednesday (Oct. 2).

Humber College won the Division One crown, its eighth straight banner. That tied the record for the most consecutive OCAA banners in any sport, sharing the mark with Mohawk’s women’s cross country in the 1980s.

Individually, Christian McCullough of Humber fired a two under par 70 in the third and final round of the event at the Paris Grand Country Club. His 210 total (minus-6) was good for a five stroke win over teammate Alex Dumais and defending champion Colton Kalkanis of Georgian. The three were the only ones to play under par for 54 holes.

Mohawk’s top shooter was Jair Saenz, who was a very respectable seven over par 234, leaving him in a tie for 13th place.

Other Mohawk scores were:

Michael Rizzetto (235), Cameron Garon (243), Eric Stuebing (254) and Brendan Lewis (258).

Mohawk’s lone woman, Jessica Fell finished at 335 after a final round score of 114.

Humber’s Adrienne D’Alessio won the women’s title, leading after every round. She won the championship by 15 strokes and led Humber to the women’s team title as well.
