The Mohawk Mountaineers women’s rugby team has done what two other teams have failed to do this Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season: They scored on the Humber Hawks.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is they managed only a handful of points and were crushed, 91-5, by the visiting Hawks at Mohawk Sports Park on Thursday (Oct. 3). And that means Humber improves to 3-0 while Mohawk is looking for its first win after three starts.
Humber has outscored its opposition 224-5 this season. Before rolling over the Mountaineers, the Hawks defeated Conestoga, 76-0 and 57-0. The Mountaineers opened with a 37-7 defeat to Seneca and fell 20-12 to Sheridan.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Mohawk women. They next play Seneca, owners of a 3-0 record, but they have outscored their rivals only 76-12. That game is scheduled for Oct. 15 at Seneca’s Markham campus.
Humber’s men’s team is no less powerful. They have outscored their opponents 168-10 in three games, including a 103-0 thrashing of Mohawk on Wednesday.
