Mohawk downed George Brown in its opening game at the St. Lawrence Vikings Men’s Basketball Tournament in Kingston on Saturday (Oct. 5), then beat Georgian to go 2-0.
Andrew Cicuttini produced a double-double with 32 points and 10 rebounds as Mohawk beat Georgian, 108-90.
Matt Fennell had 28 points plus six rebounds, Taylor Dowhaniuk had nine points and nine boards and Jeff Hunt scored six points and hauled down 14 rebounds.
Against Georgian, head coach Brian Jonker said his Mountaineers need to improve on defence, but they sure can score.
In their first game, Mohawk beat George Brown, 93-78.
Matt Fennell scored 26 points and 11 rebounds. Andrew Cicuttini had 14 points and 15 boards, despite being in foul trouble all game. Taylor Dowhaniuk recorded 11 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
The score was tied 42-42 at the half but Mohawk controlled the second half.
Jonker called it a solid win against the Huskies, who will be one of the favourites to win the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s East Division.
Mohawk will next play at 11 a.m. Sunday against the host St. Lawrence Vikings.
