Post-season play for Mohawk is in the cards

MohawkThe Mohawk Mountaineers are seeing red… literally.

The Mountaineers led Fanshawe 2-0 at half time in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association men’s soccer in London on Saturday (Oct. 5), but the Falcons stormed back to win 3-2 – a key defeat for Mohawk, currently outside looking in, when it comes to post season play.

Mark Sannzzaros scored both goals for the Mountaineers, in the 32nd and 38th minutes, but Sannzzaros, along with Patryk Korbut and Anthony Halm were all red-carded, leaving Mohawk with just seven outfield players.

The hometown Falcons rallied on markers by Kingsley Ezennaya in the 68th minute, Justin Marques in the 71st minute and Milos Janikic, two minutes from time, to pull out the win.

Mohawk can still get to a qualifying playoff game. They must beat Redeemer in their final regular season game in Ancaster Monday (Oct. 7), but they are facing another problem. Sannzzaros, Korbut and Halm are all suspended for that game due to their dismissals Saturday.
