McMaster Marauder defensive back Keldyn Ahlstedt is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week in Ontario University Athletics football.
Ahlstedt (Whitby, Ont.) was ever-present on Saturday (Oct. 5) in McMaster’s 66-3 victory over the Waterloo Warriors. The second-year defensive back nabbed three interceptions and tallied four and a half tackles on the afternoon, as the Marauder defence limited the Warriors to 172 total yards and forced eight turnovers.
On offence, the weekly award goes to James Fracas, quarterback for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
Fracas (Waterloo) was a force for Wilfrid Laurier in their near-upset of the No. 5 Queen’s Gaels on Saturday. The second-year business major threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns – both career highs – as the Golden Hawks lost 40-34 in overtime. He was instrumental in getting the game to overtime as he drove Laurier down field and tied the score with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Greg Nyhof with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
The Special teams winner is Carleton Ravens kick returner Tunde Adeleke.
Adeleke (Ottawa) tied a Canadian Interuniversity Sport special teams’ record in the second quarter of the 45th Panda Game between the Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday. He returned a missed Ottawa field goal attempt 129 yards for a Carleton touchdown; the longest possible return under current CIS football rules. The economics major also picked up an interception and had three solo tackles.
