The Mohawk men’s basketball team continued its winning ways and won the St. Lawrence Vikings Invitational Tournament in Kingston on Sunday (Oct. 6).
The Mountaineers downed the Georgian Grizzlies of Barrie, 100-77 in the final. Matt Fennell led the way with 26 points. Taylor Dowhaniuk scored 16 points, had 10 rebounds and six blocked shots. Andrew Cicuttini had 15 points, 15 boards and five assists and Xzennis Brereton collected 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Earlier in the tournament, Mohawk downed George Brown 93-78, topped Georgian 108-90, and defeated host St. Lawrence 88-62.
Fennell was named tournament MVP. Dowhaniuk and Cicuttini were each named to the All-Star Team.
The Mountaineers are now 8-0 on the exhibition trail.
“It’s a great start to our season,” said Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker. “We have a ton of work to do defensively, but we are real tough to stop.”
Mohawk wraps up the pre-season next Thursday and Friday with home games against George Brown and La Cite.
