It was a positive weekend (Oct. 5-6) for Mohawk teams in the Overkill Kickoff Volleyball tournament in London.
The Mountaineer men made it to the final before bowing 2-1 to the host Fanshawe Falcons.
Mohawk completed pool play in second place, also behind Fanshawe, after defeating Seneca and Georgian and losing to George Brown.
In the playoffs, Mohawk rallied to defeat George Brown, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11.
However, in the championship match, the Mountaineers lost to the host Falcons 15-25, 25-21, 14-16.
Mohawk’s Mark McFarland and Marcin Jedrzejewski were selected to the men’s tournament all-star team.
The Mohawk women were 1-2 in pool play, losing to Seneca and Georgian but downing George Brown to finish in fifth place.
In the playoffs the Mountaineers defeated Niagara 24-26, 25-18, 16-14, before losing to Fanshawe 25-16, 11-25, 12-15, then losing to Georgian, 12-25, 14-25, 24-26.
Mohawk finished in fourth place for the tournament, that was won by host Fanshawe, which downed Seneca in the final. Mountaineer Chi Chi Chuks Mady was named to the women’s all-star team.
