The Tyke Steel City Steelers took their unbeaten record on the road – but not too far – to face the Hamilton Wentworth Tiger Cats in Central Ontario Minor Football League action. In a hard fought game, the Steelers once again prevailed, 31-14, and remain unbeaten after six games.
Quarterback Ryder Mount led the way, scoring on runs of 88 and 50 yards. Runningback Francesco Modica scored twice on bursts of 18 and 52 yards, and widereceiver Jesse Sweet got into the scoring action with a four-yard TD scamper well as connecting on a convert.
As always, the Steeler defence was the difference maker in this one. Linebacker Evan White helped contain the Ticats running attack and defensive end Lincoln Brason had another stellar game stuffing the run as well as recovering a fumble.
Cakario Ritchie displayed some great hands catching a laser of an onside kick to maintain possession for the Steelers.
Steel City has a prime time match-up against Brantford 1, on Saturday (Oct. 12) at 6:30 p.m. at Mohawk Sports Complex.
