Mountaineer golfers have their irons in the fire

Golf_ball_resting_near_fairway_woodThe Mohawk men’s golf team has been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association for its accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday (Oct. 6). The Mountaineers share the Men’s Team of the Week Award with Humber’s golf team.

Mohawk won the OCAA Division II men’s golf team title at the Paris Grand Country Club. The Mountaineers finished 10 strokes better than runner-up St. Clair. Jair Saenz (Burlington) was Mohawk’s top golfer at the tournament with seven-over par 234, good for a tie for 13th place. Mohawk claimed the Division II bronze medal last year.

Humber was cited for winning its eighth consecutive Division I golf crown. The Hawks tied the record for the most consecutive OCAA banners in any sport, sharing the mark with Mohawk women’s cross country in the 1980s.
