Marauders on a stingy roll in men’s soccer

rp_primary_msoc-windsor-editThe Marauder men’s soccer team did all of its damage over a 12-minute span in the first half, en route to a 2-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday night (Oct. 11).

Aleksandar Vincic and Gersi Xhuti were the scorers for McMaster (10-2-2) on the night. The victory was the Marauders’ fourth in succession, during which time the team has not conceded a goal. McMaster remains atop the Ontario University Athletics West standings with the win, with 32 points from 14 matches.

Vincic opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with his first goal of the season, a rare attack from the Marauder defender. McMaster was unsatisfied with just one goal from its early pressure, however, and Xhuti struck on the eve of halftime to extend the Marauders’ advantage to 2-0. The goal was the midfielder’s sixth of the season, vaulting him into McMaster’s team lead in that category.

The Marauders dutifully put up the barricades in the second half, and did as they have for the course of their recent winning streak, successfully fending off any and all Ridgeback threats on goal.

Angelo Cavalluzzo saved all four shots he faced to record McMaster’s seventh clean sheet of the season.

The Marauders have one final weekend of action ahead before the onset of the OUA playoffs. The team will welcome the Brock Badgers to Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 19), before traveling to Waterloo to confront the Laurier Golden Hawks in the final game of the season the next day.

Saturday’s home contest will follow the preceding women’s match, and is scheduled to get underway at 3:15 p.m.
