Mizuno tourney final previews OUA start-up

Playing the role of inhospitable host, the McMaster women’s volleyball team defeated the Waterloo Warriors to advance to the final of the Mizuno Thanksgiving tournament.

McMaster took Friday’s (Oct. 11) semi-final match, 3-1, by set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 20-25 and 25-14.

The Marauders now face the Ryerson Rams for the tournament championship on Saturday. Ryerson defeated the Guelph Gryphons, 3-1, in the other semi-final.

Saturday’s medal matches will see Waterloo and Guelph play at noon in the third-place match, followed by McMaster versus Ryerson at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

The Marauders will be trying to win their second tournament in as many weeks, after taking the gold medal at the Gee-Gee Invitational last week in Ottawa. The last time these teams played, Ryerson knocked McMaster out of Ontario University Athletics playoffs last February.

Adding even more spice to the Mizuno Thanksgiving tournament final is that McMaster will also host Ryerson on Oct. 19th in the OUA conference opener for both teams.
