The McMaster men’s volleyball team debuted at No. 3 in this week’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s top ten poll, while the men’s soccer moved one position to No. 5. The men’s cross-country (6), women’s cross-country (6) and women’s rugby (10) teams stayed in top ten ratings.

Last season, the Marauder men’s volleyball team reached the CIS title match.

McMaster opened its preseason schedule on Thursday night, winning a five-set match against the Western Mustangs. They travel to Calgary this week to take part in the Dino Cup, where the Marauders will battle the top teams in Canada West.

The men’s soccer team moved to No. 5 after extending its conference winning streak to four games with victories over the Western Mustangs and UOIT Ridgebacks. The Marauders return to Ron Joyce Stadium for the final weekend of their OUA calendar, battling the Brock Badgers on Friday.

McMaster’s men’s cross-country team dropped one place in the rankings, being leapfrogged by the Queen’s Gaels after finishing third at the AUS-RSEQ Interlock on Saturday. The women’s team remains sixth, after the same finish in Montreal. The two teams now have two weeks to train before hosting the OUA Championships on October 26.

The women’s rugby team fell one spot in the rankings, despite advancing to the OUA semi-finals with a 37-0 victory over the York Lions on Friday. The Marauders will travel to Guelph to take on the No. 1-ranked Gryphons in a conference semifinal on Oct. 19.
