Court play impresses Mohawk coach

MohawkMohawk Mountaineers downed the Sault Cougars 74-31 to open play in the Georgian College Fall Classic Women’s Basketball Tournament in Barrie on Friday night (Oct. 18).

Stef Hrymak led the attack with 18 points. Careena Browne scored 12 and Porscha Hewitt added 10.

“We did a really great job on our press, forcing turnovers and converting fast break opportunities,” said Mountaineers’ head coach Kevin Duffy. “I was also happy with our balanced scoring. We shared the ball well and scored both inside and outside.

“If we maintain this we will meet with a lot of success throughout the season.”

Mohawk’s next game in the tourney will be Saturday at 11 a.m. They’ll play the Cambrian Golden Shield of Sudbury, who won their opener against the host Georgian Grizzlies.
