The Mohawk women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Trent University of Peterborough, in the semi-finals of the Fred Wannamaker Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Sheridan College in Oakville. The scores were 15-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-25.
Kristin VanHartingsveldt was the Mountaineers’ defensive star with three stuff blocks, five digs and two kills. Julie Gagnon led the offence with five kills and eight digs.
“We were certainly beaten by a better team in the semis,” said Mohawk coach Andrew Nicholson. “Trent are big, skilled and well coached. That said, as a group we feel that the scores don’t tell the whole story. We competed point for point with them.”
The Mountaineers open the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season on Wednesday (Oct. 23) in Etobicoke against the powerhouse Humber Hawks.
Their first home match will be Thursday, Oct. 31 versus the Sheridan Bruins.
