ANCASTER— Time after time goalkeeper Braydon Banitsiotis gave his Ancaster Avalanche teammates the chance to come back and defeat Niagara Falls. But in the end, they fell to the Niagara Falls Canucks, 2-1, in Golden Horseshoe Conference Junior B Hockey action Saturday (Oct. 19) in the Morgan Firestone Arena.
Dylan Pietrangelo, in goal for the Canucks, faced 21 Ancaster shots in the final 40 minutes, and was equal to the task presented by the Avs. Banitsiotis made 14 saves. Ancaster outshot Niagara Falls, 29-23, overall.
Mitch McIntosh opened the scoring at 6:33 of the first period for Niagara Falls. Dylan Savory gave them a 2-0 lead two minutes into the second before Luke Zupan pulled Ancaster within a goal at 6:17. There was no scoring in the third period.
The Avalanche remain in fourth place in the GOJHL standings with a record of seven wins, five losses, and four overtime losses while the Canucks are sixth with a 7-6-0 record.
Next action for Ancaster is Friday (Oct. 25) against the league-leading Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs in the Haldimand Community Centre. The Avalanche return home to face the Thorold Blackhawks on Saturday (Oct. 26) in the Firestone Arena. Game time for both contests is 7:30 p.m.
