The McMaster wrestling team got a positive start to its 2013-14 varsity season, with three members returning from the Concordia Invitational Tournament with gold medals.

Top results for the women’s team saw Monica Wood take first-place in the 48kg weight class, while her Marauder teammates Christianna Walker (55kg), Nicole Roach (59kg), and Angelina Sacchetti (63kg) all captured bronze medals.

On the men’s side of the competition, McMaster got a gold medal effort from Ahmed Shamiya (68kg) with Marauders Jason Buckle (61kg) and Joban Puhkla (82kg) winning silver medals.

Former Marauder Chris Garneau (72kg), now wrestling for the Hamilton Wrestling Club, also won gold in his weight class.

The Marauders are preparing to host their own McMaster Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 2) with competition being held in the McMaster Sport Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
