ANCASTER— Blake Luscombe scored three times, including two on the powerplay, as the Ancaster Avalanche ended their four-game winless streak with a 6-2 victory over Welland Junior Canadians Saturday night (Nov. 2) in Golden Horseshoe Junior B Conference hockey action in the Morgan Firestone Arena.
Ancaster is fourth in the GHC with a record of eight wins, six losses and five overtime-shootout losses. Welland is fifth with an 8-8-2 record.
Welland grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the second period with a pair of powerplay goals by Jason Lacroix and Adam Mataya. The Avalanche roared back with six unanswered goals, scoring three times in the middle period and three in the final 20 minutes of play.
In addition to his three goals, Luscombe had two assists. Luke Zupan added a goal and three assists while Cole Nagy and Ryan Lewis rounded out the Avs scoring with single goals. Zach Nieminen set up three scoring plays.
The next action for the Avalanche is Friday (Nov.8) when they travel to Niagara Falls to play the Canucks in the Gale Centre at 7:30 p.m. They return home the following night to play the first place Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs at 7:30 p.m. in the Firestone Arena. The Corvairs are currently riding the crest of a 19-game unbeaten streak.
