After sweeping their weekend matches in Ontario University Athletics, the Marauder basketball teams also swept the McMaster athlete of the week honours. Danielle Boiago and Joe Rocca are in the Pita Pit spotlight for the period of Oct. 28-Nov. 3.

Second-year guard Boiago (Hamilton) was outstanding for the Marauder women’s basketball team. In a 70-35 victory over Toronto Varsity Blues, Boiago scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds, made three steals and dished out two assists without committing a turnover.

The following night against Ryerson, she led the Marauders in scoring with 19 points in a 66-42 triumph over the Rams. She added three rebounds and three steals, while making five assists and committing only one turnover. Her consistent effort over the two nights allowed McMaster to claim the opening weekend for a strong start to the OUA interlock part of the schedule.

In Friday’s 96-75 win over Toronto, Rocca scored 16 points on seven of 15 shooting, and grabbed six rebounds to help the Marauders defeat the Varsity Blues.

Facing the No. 4-ranked team in Canadian Interuniversity Sport top-ten, Rocca was outstanding on Saturday as McMaster beat Ryerson 74-64. He led the Marauders in scoring with 22 points, shooting nine of 14 from the floor and knocking down three of five shots from beyond the arc.

Rocca added to his stat line with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals against the Rams in a solid all-round performance.
