Niagara’s Stefan Simeunovic, Nemanja Stafanovic of Oakville, Kirill Chepushtanov of Burlington and Stefan Simeunovic, from Oakville all won their opening two games at the inaugural Ontario Tennis Association Champions Under 9 Tournament at the Rexall Centre in Toronto on Friday (Nov. 8) in boys division play.
They advance to the third round on Saturday (Nov. 9).
Oakville’s Joshua Kim lost his two matches and was eliminated.
In the girls division Burlington’s Victoria Mboko, Aleksandra Paramentic, of Niagara Falls, and Olivia Halvorsen, of Milton, all won their two opening round matches to advance to Saturday’s round three.
Competition concludes on Sunday.
The weekend began with 72 of the top Under 9 competitors in the province, 40 boys and 32 girls, competing for $20,000 worth of private coaching from their pro. The two winners, one boy and one girl, will each receive $6,000 worth of private coaching over a two year period, with the two finalists receiving $4,000 worth of private coaching each. The event is being played on a full size court with modified “Green Dot” tennis balls and a modified scoring system.
