Hamilton Bulldogs forward Akim Aliu has been released from his professional try out contract with the American Hockey League club.
In 14 games with Hamilton this season, Aliu recorded four points (three goals, one assist) and 18 penalty minutes.
The 24-year-old split last season between the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League and the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat. In five regular season games with Calgary, he had no points and 14 penalty minutes. In 42 regular season games with Abbotsford, the Okene, Nigeria-born forward recorded 11 points (four goals, seven assists) and 111 penalty minutes.
He was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (56th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday (Nov. 15), when the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) visit Copps Coliseum for a 7:30 p.m. game.
