College rugby names its stars

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association announced its rugby awards November 18.

Each team nominates two All-Stars and for Hamilton’s Mohawk College the top men’s players were Billy Gemmell (Brantford) and Ross Isbister (Stoney Creek).

Oakville’s Sheridan Bruins placed Devon Bulizo (Georgetown) and Mark DiGiandomenico (Brantford) on the all-star list.

Humber’s Jason Rice was named OCAA Men’s Rugby Player of the Year. The top Rookie was John Shaw of Algonquin College and Geoff Tomlinson, also from Algonquin was selected Coach of the Year.

On the women’s side, Mohawk All-Stars were Stephanie Draper (Stoney Creek) and Tabitha Fair (Hamilton). For Sheridan, Shannon Paterson (Mississauga) and Meghan Sowsun (Oakville) got the nod.

Algonquin’s Morgan Houde-Pearce was named OCAA Women’s Rugby Player of the Year. The top rookie was Humber’s Charlene Mocon and Brett McCully of Humber was selected OCAA Coach of the Year.
