The Niagara Knights backed up their recent No. 2 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association men’s volleyball national ranking with a 3-1 win over the Redeemer Royals on Wednesday night (Nov.20).
In the first meeting this season between the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association rivals, the Royals won the opening set 25-22 but couldn’t maintain the momentum and dropped the next three sets 22-25, 19-25, 16-25. With the loss, Redeemer’s record falls to 4-2 after having won three straight games. Niagara remains unbeaten after seven starts.
Cameron Grooenendijk led Redeemer with 12 total kills while Eric Heidbuurt added 11. Jake Klassen had 35 assists for the Royals.
Ontario University Athletics transfer Danniel Groenveld had 23 kills for the Knights.
The Royals have a short turnaround as they travel to Fanshawe College on Friday (Nov. 22) to take on the Falcons in London.
