MVC sweeps its way to 15U Provincial Cup


The Mountain Volleyball Club 15-Under team placed first at the 15U Provincial Cup Trillium D held in Mississauga on Saturday (Nov. 23).

Placing first in pool play, MVC Black defeated Etobicoke 14U Dacrew, 25-7, 25-14, and the Halton Hurricanes, 25-10, 25-22.

In the quarter-finals, MVC defeated the Niagara Rapids, 25-4, 25-12, and the Etobicoke Titans, 25-22, 25-19, in the semi-finals.

In the championship match, MVC defeated the Burlington Blaze, 25-14, 25-23, to finish the tournament as champions without losing a set.

The MVC 15U team is coached by Larissa Puhach and Dan Byckalo of Burlington. Players include Catherine Gracey of Dundas, Grace Laurat of Ancaster, Meredith Elstone of Hamilton, Morgan Randall of Burlington, Nicole Dragus of Stoney Creek, Rachel Dickenson of Carlisle, Kate Keeting, Ashleigh Reigel, and Marija Cvetkova all from Milton, Melina Weiler of Simcoe, and Ainsleigh Williams of Mount Hope.

Playing up an age division, the MVC 14U Black team finished fourth overall at the same event.

The MVC 14U Black team is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington and Kristin Kawamoto of Hamilton. Players include Elisa Mejia of Stoney Creek, Khloe Mattiozzi, Felicia Malavolta, Taylor Morrison, and Grace Heath all from Hamilton, Megan Richer and Scarlett Windich of Dundas, Megan Grosso of Carlisle, Karmen Krug of Waterdown, and Christina Stratford of Burlington.
