It was a sweep for the men and a heartbreaking loss for the women against Conestoga in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball at Mohawk’s David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on Friday (Nov. 29).

Trevor McLaughlin had six kills and four stuff blocks and Eric Danecke added seven kills as the Mountaineers upped their record to 5-3 with their fourth straight victory. Head coach Matt Schnarr seized the opportunity to get quite a few of his bench players into the match.
Brent Riedstra had four kills and Chris Irving added three kills for the Condors, who fell to 1-6.
The Mohawk women suffered a five set defeat to Conestoga. The scores were 25-18, 26-24, 11-25, 23-25, 16-14 for the Condors.

The Mountaineers saw their record drop to 3-5, while the Condors improved to 3-4.
“We deserved to win tonight,” said Mohawk head coach Andrew Nicholson. “Conestoga defended well but we really played well enough for extended periods, to win this match. Unfortunately we passed poorly at the very beginning and very end of the fifth set. We have dug ourselves a huge hole now but we still have time to get back into playoff contention.”
Both Mohawk teams will meet Redeemer at the Braley Centre on Thursday (Dec. 5) for their final action before the holiday break.
