The No. 1 collegiate team in Canada, the Sheridan Bruins, gave the Redeemer Royals men’s basketball team a display of why they are ranked the best in the country.
The Bruins defeated the Royals 114-82 in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association game on Friday (Nov. 29). The Royals set the tone early but as the game wore on, the Bruins showed their strength.
The Royals came out ready to play and eager to see how they stacked up against Sheridan. Redeemer went up 21-15 late in the first quarter. However, the Bruins went on an 11-2 run to finish out the frame, taking back control of the match. From there, it was an offensive shootout as both teams were firing at will. Sheridan finished the game with 94 shots attempted while Redeemer ended with 59.
The Royals AJ Manguerra led all scorers with 17 points while Calvin Turnbull added 16 with four assists. Spencer Kerssies pulled down eight rebounds for Redeemer.
Paul Williams had 17 points for the 8-0 Sheridan Bruins. Redeemer now enters the break with a record of 4-5.
