’Dogs’ Holland pots two goals in return from injury

bulldogsAfter missing the previous nine games with a lower body injury, Hamilton Bulldogs forward Patrick Holland returned to the lineup with a two-goal, first-star performance as the ‘Dogs (10-9-0-3) dropped the Lake Erie Monsters (10-9-0-1) 4-1 at Copps Coliseum on Saturday evening (Nov. 30).

Also scoring for Hamilton in the American Hockey League game were Joonas Nattinen and Mike Blunden. Holland’s goals came three minutes apart in the final period with Hamilton holding a 2-1 edge.

Lake Erie forward Paul Carey opened the scoring 17:42 into the first period. Hamilton got that goal back just 1:21 later when Nattinen notched his third counter of the season.

Eighteen seconds after that and with 39 seconds to go in the first period, Blunden scored his sixth goal of the year.

After a scoreless middle frame, Holland finished off a three-on-one Bulldogs break at 9:01 of the third period for his second goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game. Three minutes later, Holland netted his third goal of the season. Forwards Christian Thomas and Martin St. Pierre drew assists on both of Holland’s goals.

Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves in the Bulldogs net while Sami Aittokallio faced 28 shots from the Avs.

The Bulldogs went 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Monsters went 0-for-7.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 when they will travel to Cleveland, Ohio to take on Lake Erie (AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) at 7:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena. The ‘Dogs return to Copps Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 8, when they will host the Monsters at 3 p.m.
