MVC 13U Black turns to gold


mvcThe Mountain Volleyball Club 13U Black team claimed the championship and the Mountain Volleyball Club 13U Maroon team placed a strong fifth at the 13U Provincial Cup (Trillium B) held in Hamilton on Saturday (Nov. 30).

Placing first in pool play, MVC 13U Black defeated the Niagara Rapids 12U, 25-18, 25-10, and the Guelph Grizzlies Black, 23-25, 25-23, 15-11,

In the quarter-finals. The team carried on to defeat the Guelph Grizzlies Red, 25-10, 25-9, and the Niagara Rapids Blue, 25-15, 25-16, in the semi-finals.

In the Gold medal match, MVC 13U Black overcame the Guelph Grizzlies Black, 25-20, 25-18, to finish as tournament champions.

The MVC 13U Black team is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington, Christine Kalata of Oakville and Kaitlin Mattiozzi of Hamilton.

The MVC 13U Black athletes include: Mairin Clarke of Burlington, Sophie Hollingshead and Ella Carter of Hamilton, Natalie Ogrodnik, Taite Cleland, Sarah Treffry, and Meira Morphet, all of Ancaster, Emily Keeting of Milton, Alexie Chevrier and Samantha Honaizer of Binbrook.

Placing second in their pool, MVC 13U Maroon defeated the Guelph Grizzlies Red, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8, and fell to the Burlington Blaze, 25-11, 25-7.

In the quarter-finals, MVC 13U Maroon were defeated by the Niagara Rapids Blue, 25-15, 25-22. They bounced back and were determined to finish their first Ontario Volleyball Association tournament with a win and fought it out with the Guelph Grizzlies Red, 25-11, 15-25, 15-3 to finish fifth overall.

The MVC 13U Maroon team is coached by Denis Levesque of Hamilton, Meaghan Quennell of Oakville and Wally Verschoor of Dundas.

The MVC 13U Maroon athletes include: Christina Yamnyuk of Ancaster, Kira Verschoor, Emily Richer, Alex Rorie, and Leah Waite, all of Dundas, Amy Simunic of Glanbrook, Mary Henry, Mia Miskovic, Rachel Vanderwal, Mackenzie Typer-Case, Serena McKay, Madeleine Madronich, and Logan Garvey, all of Hamilton.
