The Marauder water polo teams competed at the Ontario University Athletics championships in Toronto this past weekend, where McMaster’s women missed the podium by the narrowest of margins.
After regulation solved nothing, the Marauders and Ottawa Gee-Gees went to a shootout, where Ottawa edged McMaster 4-3 to claim bronze. McMaster’s men, meanwhile, settled for sixth with a 13-7 loss to the Queen’s Gaels in Saturday’s (Nov. 30) fifth-place match.
Competition opened with the first round of pool play on Friday night, where the Marauder women fell 9-1 to the host, and eventual champion, Varsity Blues. McMaster rebounded on Saturday, posting a dominant 20-1 victory over the York Lions to book its place in Sunday’s bronze-medal match.
Much as the women had, the Marauder men opened pool play against the eventual champion Carleton Ravens, and were defeated 13-2. McMaster’s men also rebounded at the expense of the York Lions on Saturday, notching a 12-7 win to propel themselves into the fifth-place match.
