Dundas scoring leader earned his fourth goal of the season as the Real McCoys ran their winning streak to four games while ending Brantford Blast’s eight-game winning run with a 4-3 shootout win in Allan Cup Hockey action Friday night (Dec. 6) in the JL Grightmire Arena.
A crucial blocked shot by player-coach Jay McKee with 2:18 to go, and a clutch save by goalkeeper Mike Mole with 1:48 left, propelled the McCoys into overtime even though Brantford outshot Dundas 41-32 on the night, including 4-2 in overtime.
In the battle of the netminders, Mole was caught down on one knee, but not out as he stopped a rocket from Brantford sniper Cam Sault with less than five minutes to play. Immediately prior to that play, Brantford’s Brett Leggat stopped Nick Smith cold for the second time in the match.
In addition to Mifsud, Steve Hurst, Jordan Foreman, and Justin Davis, on a powerplay, scored for Dundas. Joe Koudys) assisted on two scoring plays. Chris Leveille, Sault, and Mike Ruberto replied for Brantford.
As part of the game, representatives from David William Shoes and the Real McCoys collected bags and boxes of “Gently Worn Shoes” to benefit the Good Shepherd, the Welcome Inn Community Inn and other agencies at the Grightmire Arena. The game also marked the official start of the annual Salvation Army Food Drive which continues throughout December. Donation barrels are situated in the lobby of the arena on game nights.
Santa Claus comes to town on Friday, Dec. 20 for the McCoys annual Teddy Bear Toss when Dundas plays the Whitby Dunlops at 7:30 p.m.
