Monsters have too much power for Bulldogs

bulldogsCLEVELAND – The Hamilton Bulldogs allowed three power play goals on Friday night (Dec. 6) en route to a 4-1 defeat to the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The loss left the Bulldogs with a 10-10-0-3 record in the American Hockey League while the Monsters improved to 12-9-0-1.

Lake Erie forward Colin Smith opened the scoring at 4:54 of the first period.

With Bulldogs forward Nick Tarnasky in the penalty box for interference, Monsters forward Joey Hishon notched a power play goal less than two minutes later to put Lake Erie ahead 2-0.

With just 27 seconds left to play in the second period, Lake Erie defenceman Matt Hunwick scored on the power play to make it 3-0.

Just 1:38 into the third period, Smith scored his second goal of the game, this time on the power play, to extend Hamilton’s deficit to four.

Bulldogs forward Maxime Macenauer spoiled the Monsters’ shutout bid on the power play with 3:15 to play in the final frame.

Dustin Tokarski made 25 saves on 29 shots in the Bulldogs net. Calvin Pickard made 21 saves on 22 shots for the Monsters.

Hamilton’s next game is Saturday (Dec. 7) when they will travel to Toronto to take on the Marlies at 5 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. The ‘Dogs return to Copps Coliseum the next day when they will host the Monsters at 3 p.m.
