St. Pierre gives Bulldogs win over Marlies


bulldogsBulldogs forward Martin St. Pierre scored twice and goaltender Robert Mayer made 22 saves as Hamilton topped the Toronto Marlies 2-1 on Saturday (Dec. 7) at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario.

St. Pierre opened the scoring on the power play at 11:52 of the first period and just 62 seconds into the second period he took a pass from forward Christian Thomas beat Marlies goaltender Drew MacIntyre.

With Hamilton forward Nick Tarnasky serving a double minor for butt-ending, Toronto defenceman Korbinian Holzer scored on the power play with 2:06 left in the second period to complete the scoring

The Marlies carried the play in the last part of the third period, but the ‘Dogs held strong through a late-game penalty kill and a Toronto extra-attacker advantage to preserve the win.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Sunday (Dec. 8) when they will host the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL Affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) at 3 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
