MVC awarded with Silver and Bronze


The Mountain Volleyball Club 14U Black team won the silver medal and the 14U Maroon squad won the bronze medal at Ontario Volleyball Association tournaments held on Saturday (Dec 7).

The Black team competed in the 14U Challenge Cup Championship West tournament in London. Placing first in pool play, MVC defeated the Predators Purple, 25-18, 24-26, 17-15, and the Stratford Stingers, 24-15, 25-15.

They moved through the quarter-finals defeating the Woodstock Warriors, 25-22, 25-10, and the Windsor South County Bandits, 25-9, 25-18.

The host team, Forest City, came out on top defeating MVC 14U Black, 25-13, 25-20, in the championship.

14U Black remains in the Championship West division for its next tournament in the new year.

The team is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington and Kristin Kawamoto of Hamilton. Players include: Elisa Mejia of Stoney Creek, Khloe Mattiozzi, Felicia Malavolta, Taylor Morrison, and Grace Heath, all from Hamilton; Megan Richer and Scarlett Windich, both from Dundas; Megan Grosso, Carlisle; Karmen Krug, Waterdown; and Christina Stratford of Burlington.

Placing first in their pool, the Maroons defeated the Selects 00, 25-9, 25-8, and the Oakville Thunder White, 25-22, 25-18.

In the quarter-finals, the Hamilton team pushed to win over the Georgetown Impact, 25-18, 25-12, to advance to the semi-finals where they were defeated by the Oakville Thunder Blue, 25-18, 25-15.

In the Bronze medal match, MVC 14U Maroon faced a rematch with the Oakville Thunder White and took home the medal with scores of 25-21, 25-19.

The Maroon team is coached by Jerry Olejarz of Dundas, Kelly Entwistle of Ancaster and Mike Smith of Hamilton. Players include: Brianna Quijano, Kaitlin Johnny, and Meaghan Boatsmith, all from Hamilton; Lauryn D’Aurora, Stoney Creek; Shaelyn Francis, Glanbrook; Victoria Fisher, Zofia Olejarz, and Zoë Lawrence, all from Dundas; Jamie Mataseje, Paige Enwistle, Jaiya Morphet, and Rae Delsey, all from Ancaster.
