B.C. swimmer joins the Marauders talent pool

Brandon De Costa of Richmond, B.C. has committed to the McMaster Marauders swim team for 2014.

A top-ranked backstroke swimmer from the Richmond Rapids Swim Club, De Costa will have an immediate impact at Ontario University Athletics and Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships when he joins the team in September.

He has been a multiple gold medallist at Western Nationals, and has an excellent potential. More importantly, Brandon has a great attitude and focus, and exemplifies the Marauder spirit.

His commitment caps a successful fall campaign for the Marauders broke seven team records and collected seven medals at the prestigious Canada Cup.

The new record holders are:

Sarah Taylor 50 Freestyle – 25.69
Eric Anderson 50 Backstroke – 25.63
Eric Anderson 100 Backstroke – 55.35
Matthew Vogelzang 50 Butterfly – 24.75
Eric Anderson 100 Butterfly – 54.02
Men’s 200 Medley Relay (Anderson, Bald, Vogelzang, Bailey) – 1:41.16
Men’s 200 Freestyle Relay (Bailey, Vogelzang, Anderson, Eldah) – 1:32.28

In total, 16 swimmers have already posted results under CIS time standards and have booked their ticket to the national championships. After exams, the swim team will travel to Puerto Rico for its annual warm-weather training camp during the Christmas break. They will look to increase their volume and intensity of training as well as fine tune their stroke techniques in preparation for the upcoming championship meets in February.
