While many of their parents were battling a record snowfall on the weekend, the Hamilton Hub Novice Tigers stormed the Oshawa Minor Hockeyfest Tournament and returned home with the championship banner.
The Tigers went through the tourney with four wins and a tie, allowing one goal in four games and earning a shutout in the other as eight teams chased the championship. They outscored their opponents 24-4.
Hamilton opened tournament play on Friday (Dec. 13) with a 7-1 decision over the Letrim Hawks A2 team from Carlsbad, Ont. The next day they played to a 1-1 stalemate against the Kitchener Rangers and finished the days blanking the Napanee Stars 7-0.
On Sunday, the Milton Winterhawks fell 5-1 in a semi-final tilt and the Kitchener Rangers went down 4-1 in the championship game. Tucker McConnell-Fritz and Drew Clark each scored twice in the title taking tilt with Matteo Reda contributing three assists. Also picking up helpers were Ricky Johnstone and Hunter McGilvery.
Providing strong goaltending in the semi-final and final victories was Mathew Czyzewski.
