Wolves offer more bite then Bulldogs

bulldogsThe Wolves were hungry and fed on the Bulldogs in the second period when three unanswered goals would satisfy Chicago’s 5-2 American Hockey League blue-plate special on Wednesday (Dec. 18). The game had a school day 11.15 a.m. Central Time start.

The Bulldogs suffered their third straight loss, leaving them with a 12-13-0-3 record while the host Wolves went to 13-12-0-2.

Scoring for the Wolves were Ty Rattie, with two in the first period, and Mark Mancari, Pat Cannone, and Dmitrij Jaskin, all in the second period.

Hamilton’s offence came from Morgan Ellis and Jarred Tinordii. Ellis was credited with the game’s first goal while a delayed penalty was being called against Hamilton. Chicago pulled its goalie in favour of an extra skater but the puck deflected off a Wolves player’s skate, slid the length of the ice and into their vacated net.

But just under a minute later, Chicago used the powerplay to tie the contest.

The Wolves took a 2-1 lead with 56 seconds to go in the opening frame when Rattie scored again. Former Hamilton Bulldog Corey Locke assisted on both goals.

Tinordi drew the teams even at 2-2 with his first goal of the season almost six minutes into the second period. Chicago then scored its trio of goals for the win.

Mike Condon took over in goal for Hamilton in the third period, but the goaltending change wasn’t enough to spark the ‘Dogs into a comeback.

Tokarski made 19 saves on 24 shots over two periods in the Bulldogs net and was charged with the loss. Condon stopped the eight shots he faced. Jake Allen made 18 saves on 19 shots for the Wolves in the win.

The Bulldogs went 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Wolves went 1-for-8.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday (Dec. 20), when they will travel to Des Moines to take on the Iowa Wild (AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild) at 8:05 p.m. The ‘Dogs return to Copps Coliseum on Sunday (Dec. 22), when they will host the Abbotsford Heat (affiliate of the Calgary Flames) at 3 p.m.
