Tommy Barszcz scored two goals to carry the St. Catharines Falcons to a 3-0 white wash of the Ancaster Avalanche in Golden Horseshoe Junior B Conference action Saturday (Dec. 21) in the Morgan Firestone Arena.
Ancaster appeared to be on the comeback trail by outshooting the Falcons 21-11 in the second period but they couldn’t beat netminder Knick Dawe. On the night, the Aves held a 34-30 advantage in shots on net.
After a scoreless first period, Barszcz gave the hosts a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the second period. He added hi second counter early in the third period and Yanni Rallis completed the scoring for St. Catharines.
Ryan Doucette set up both of Barszcz’s goals.
The shutout by Dawe was his second of the season, and the fourth by Falcons netminders.
St. Catharines holds second place with a record of 28 wins, and three losses for 56 points in 31 games while Ancaster is fourth with a 17-10-5 record for 39 points in 32 games. Next action for the Avalanche is against the Buffalo Regals on Saturday, Dec. 28 in the Morgan Firestone Arena at 7:30 p.m.
Fans are reminded that anyone with tickets for last Saturday’s postponed game with Port Colborne Pirates, will have those tickets honoured at either the re-scheduled game or the remaining December game (Saturday, December 28).
The Ancaster Avalanche Junior B Hockey Club’s first annual Toy Drive Night continues Dec. 28. Anyone bringing a new toy to the game will receive a free Fan Appreciation Night ticket for the Avalanche’s Saturday, Feb. 22 against the Niagara Falls Canucks at 7:30 p.m.
