Mohawk starts tourney on losing note

MohawkThe Mohawk men’s basketball team dropped an 87-75 decision to the host Phoenix College Bears to open the Maricopa County Holiday Classic in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday (Dec. 28). The Bears are the 16th ranked team in U.S. junior college men’s basketball.

“We actually struggled with the 35 second shot clock,” said Mountaineers’ head coach Brian Jonker. “We took too many quick shots. We also looked real tired in the second half.”

Andrew Cicuttini led Mohawk with 12 points and 19 rebounds while Matt Fennell scored 22 points with nine boards and Pat Iavarone chipped in with 13 points.

The Mountaineers are back on the court Sunday at 2 p.m. (ET) against the Cochise College Apaches from Douglas Arizona.
