Mountaineers came to life too late: Coach

MohawkThe Mohawk men’s basketball team lost its second straight decision at the Maricopa Holiday Classic in Phoenix on Sunday (Dec. 29). The Cochise College Apaches from Douglas Arizona downed the Mountaineers, 94-80.

Pat Iavarone led Mohawk with 17 points, including five three-pointers. Andrew Cicuttini hopped 14 points and added seven rebounds. Jeff Hunt contributed 13 points and six boards.

Mountaineers’ head coach Brian Jonker said his side didn’t match the energy that Cochise brought, playing lackadaisically and with no energy until it was too late. Jonker feels his team is not good enough to play like that and beat good teams.

Mohawk will try to salvage the trip Monday night with a win over South Mountain Community College of Phoenix.
