Bulldogs enjoying the Heat

bulldogsABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Two goals by Gabriel Dumont gave the Hamilton Bulldogs their fifth straight American Hockey League win as they downed the Abbotsford Heat, 3-1, on Saturday night (Jan. 4). Hamilton has now gone six consecutive games earning a point, also a season best for the team. Hamilton beat the Heat, 2-1, on Friday night

The season-high win streak improved the Bulldogs record to 17-14-0-4, good enough for second place in the North Division, three points behind the Toronto Marlies.

Despite the loss, Abbotsford held onto first place in the West Division with a record of 23-11-1-1.

Abbotsford struck first on the power play just past the midway mark of the opening stanza when Markus Granlund ripped a shot past Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski.

Hamilton replied with just over three minutes to play in the second period when Mike Blunden’s shot bounced off Dumont and into the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Just 49 seconds into the third period, Dumont scored again on the power play to make it 2-1 Hamilton.

Maxime Macenauer added an empty-net goal with 16 seconds to go to seal the 3-1 victory. Tokarski earned the only assist on the insurance marker.

Tokarski made 26 saves on 27 shots while the Heat’s Joey MacDonald made 24 saves on 26 shots.

The Bulldogs went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Heat went 1-for-6.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10, when the ‘Dogs will travel to Rochester, New York to take on the Americans. The Bulldogs and Americans return to Hamilton’s Copps Coliseum the following night.
