Bulldogs tame the Wild, 3-1

hamiltonbulldogsbackgroundBulldogs’ defenceman Nathan Beaulieu’s goal and assist paced Hamilton to a 3-1 American Hockey League win over the visiting (19-15-0-4) Iowa Wild on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 12) at Copps Coliseum. The win was Hamilton’s seventh in their past eight contests and gives the Bulldogs a 19-15-0-4 record, good enough for second place in the North Division, two points back of the Toronto Marlies.

Gabriel Dumont got the ‘Dogs on the board first with his eighth goal of the season on a power play with just over one minute to play in the opening period.

Iowa forward and Hamilton native Marc Hagel tied the game, also the product of a power play early in the middle period.

Beaulieu put Hamilton ahead six minutes later when he potted a rebound off a shot from forward Sven Andrighetto for his fourth goal of the campaign.

With six seconds left in the final period, Nick Tarnasky added an unassisted empty netter for his team’s co-leading ninth goal of the season to seal the win.

Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves on 28 shots in the Bulldogs net in the win. Johan Gustafsson made 31 saves on 33 shots for the Wild.

The Bulldogs and the Wild each went 1-for-5 on the power play.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Saturday (Jan. 18), when the ‘Dogs will host the Utica Comets (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) at Copps Coliseum at 7 p.m.
