Another day. Another efficient day at the office for Jori Mantha.
The fourth-year outside put up a game-high 17 points – converting 12 of 22 hitting attempts with just two errors (45.5 per cent) – to lead the nation’s No. 1-ranked McMaster Marauders men’s volleyball team to a straight-set victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday (Jan. 18).
Mantha added two aces and three solo blocks to his attacking tallies, while second-year outside Shayne Herbert amassed 12 points in just two sets of action, converting 11 of 16 attempts versus two errors (56.3 per cent).
Set scores were 25-20, 25-10, 27-25 as McMaster kept its perfect season alive, and moved its Ontario University Athletics conference record to 13-0. The Marauders are four points clear of the Waterloo Warriors and Western Mustangs for top spot in the OUA, with a game in hand on both.
The team’s big-city road swing wraps up on Sunday (Jan. 19), when the Marauders visit the fifth-placed Ryerson Rams (9-4). That match is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
