Fickel’s offence scores OUA award

brockbadgersBrock Badgers hockey player Jessica Fickel has been named Pioneer Energy Ontario University Athletics women’s athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 19.

The Fort Erie, Ont., native helped lead Brock women’s hockey team to back-to-back home victories over the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs. In those two games, the fourth-year kinesiology major recorded seven points – five goals and two helpers. Two of her goals were shorthanded markers tying her for the all-time lead with former Badger Kate Allgood for career shorthanded goals.

Against Nipissing, Fickel had a four-point performance, highlighted by a natural hat trick in the 8-1 victory. In the 4-0 win over Laurentian, she had two goals and one assist.

The male athlete of the week award goes to Daniel Tulloch of the York Lions basketball team.

Tulloch (Mississauga, Ont.) tallied 52 points and 16 rebounds in two games to lead the Lions to a 1-1 record against Algoma and Laurentian.
