Men’s volleyball player Danny Demyanenko and women’s basketball player Hailey Milligan are the Pita Pit Athletes of the Week for the period Jan. 13-19.

Milligan joined elite company on Saturday, and she did so in style. The veteran Marauder centre exploded for 34 points as McMaster lost 70-69 to Wilfrid Laurier and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her Ontario University Athletics career.

She becomes just the fourth Marauder in program history to accomplish the feat. She shares the honour with Taylor Chiarot, Taylor Smith and Chiara Rocca.

In addition to her offensive output, Milligan put up 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Demyanenko was a constant force on offence and defence this past weekend, propelling the Canadian Interuniversity Sport No. 1-ranked Marauder men’s volleyball team to two victories in Toronto. Last season’s CIS Rookie of the Year was an efficient six for 10 hitting in Saturday’s sweep of the Toronto Varsity Blues, and added four solo blocks.

He saved his best work for Sunday’s challenging visit to Ryerson, notching nine kills on 14 attempts and adding three aces and six total blocks for a game-high total of 18 points in the Marauders’ 3-1 win over the Rams. Demyanenko hit at 56.5 per cent over the course of the weekend, as McMaster remained undefeated in OUA play.
