Mountaineer women rewarded for basketball efforts


The Mohawk women’s basketball team has been selected Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women’s Team of the Week for the seven day period ending Sunday, Jan. 19.

The Mountaineers came up with their biggest win of the season, a 67-39 victory over West Division-leading Etobicoke Humber Hawks, on Jan. 16. Two days later, Mohawk defeated Sarnia Lambton Lions, 92-60, to extend its win streak to a season-high four games.

The Mountaineers sit fourth in the division with 16 points from an 8-4 record. Also with 16 points are London’s Fanshawe Falcons, with a game in hand, and Niagara Knights.

The Mountaineers resume conference play on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 24-25) when they visit Sault Ste. Marie to play the Sault Cougars, last in the West loop with a 1-9 record.

Mohawk hosts the OCAA championship on Feb. 27-March 1.
