Expect to see defenceman Drew Schiestel in the Hamilton Bulldogs lineup Friday after the American Hockey League team recalled him from the Wheeling Nailers on Thursday (Jan. 23).
Schiestel, a Hamilton native, has divided his playing time this year between the Bulldogs and the East Coast Hockey League Nailers. The 6’2”, 193-pound defenceman has provided recorded six assists while collecting 16 penalty minutes in his 21 games with the Bulldogs. Six games with Wheeling, have resulted in one goal and one assist with no penalty minutes.
In 212 career AHL regular season games with the Portland Pirates, Rochester Americans, Texas Stars and Bulldogs, Schiestel has nine goals and 52 assists along with 103 penalty minutes.
He was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (59th overall) in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Friday’s game against the Toronto Marlies starts at 7:30 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. With the lower bowl of Copps Coliseum sold out (more than 8,000 seats), the Bulldogs have opened the upper level.
