Bulldogs come up empty handed against Marlies

bulldogsThe Hamilton Bulldogs out-shot the Toronto Marlies in all three periods on Friday night (Jan. 24) but they were firing blanks. The result was a 2-0 American Hockey League victory for the visiting Marlies and a shutout for netminder Drew MacIntyre. He stopped 32 shots for the goose egg.

With a much larger crowd than usual at Copps Coliseum, 9,983, the game started off on a feisty note with two fights in the opening 20 minutes. Marlies forward David Broll dropped the gloves with Bulldogs defenceman Jarred Tinordi just 7:43 into the game, then Toronto forward Sam Carrick and Hamilton forward Gabriel Dumont squared off at 15:54 of the first period.

Greg McKegg scored what would stand as the game winner on a power play with less than two minutes to go in the opening frame. Jerry D’Amigo added the insurance marker at 15:45 of the second period while the Marlies were shorthanded.

The Bulldogs went 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Marlies went 1-for-5.

The Bulldogs have little time to rest, travelling to Cleveland to take on the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday (Jan. 25) and then returning to Hamilton to play the Chicago Wolves the next afternoon at 4 o’clock.
